的最好本科學校之一。麥格勒爾教授長期從事哲學倫理學和價值論的研究，是國際著名的《價值探求》雜志的主編，美國國際價值哲學學會的組織者和前任會長，長期活躍在倫理學和國際價值哲學領域，已經主持召開了一年一屆的價值哲學國際會議近三十屆。發(fā)表過論著多部，近年來他對中國哲學界關注較多，尤其熱愛中國，愿與中國學者交往。

這個課程主要進行古希臘的哲學倫理學的講授，對于那些形成西方倫理學哲學基礎的某些重要的古代哲學家，將提供一個哲學的導論。我們將考慮柏拉圖的正義論，亞里士多德對德性的理解，斯多亞派對情感的態(tài)度，伊壁鳩魯對快樂的提倡。某些討論將聯系其思想觀點的背景一起進行。但我們主要集中在從概念分析和探討所引發(fā)的哲學問題上。我們將分析柏拉圖、亞里士多德、斯多亞派和伊壁鳩魯的思想，同時，也將分析研究善的性質，工具性的和內在性的價值，自由意志，以及惡的問題。

 

This course will provide an introduction to thoughts of some ancient philosophers that form the philosophical foundations of ethics in the West. We will consider Plato’s account of justice for the individual, Aristotle’s understanding of virtue, the Stoic condemnation of emotion, and the Epicurean promotion of pleasure. Some attention will be given to the historical context in which the thoughts emerged, but our primary focus will be on philosophical issues that arise from conceptual exploration. As we consider the thoughts of Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics, and the Epicureans, we will reflect on the nature of goodness, instrumental and inherent value, free will, and the problem of evil. No previous courses in philosophy are required.
